During the first year of employment all school bus drivers must complete a 30-hour course on school bus safety practices. Instruction is provided by a certified School Bus Instructor (SBDI). Upon completion of this required training, drivers receive a certificate from the University of the State of New York Education Department. (Call for scheduling).
All school bus drivers must receive three (3) hours of Pre-Service Instruction which will include key responsibilities of school bus drivers, student management, bus stop safety, students with special needs, wheelchair training, and emergency procedures. Instruction is provided by certified School Bus Instructor (SBDI).
This mandated training for all school bus drivers and attendants is conducted twice a year. It is a two (2) hour refresher course in school bus safety and instructions relating to special needs of a pupil with disability (PJ’s Law). Instruction is provided by certified School Bus Instructor (SBDI).
This mandated requirement tests the driver’s speed, endurance, vehicle control, and evacuation abilities on the school bus. Test is given by a certified School Bus Instructor (SBDI).
